Vance MillerVance D. Miller is a partner with Armstrong Teasdale LLP and former chair of the Employment and Labor Department. Since 1978, he has represented management in all aspects of labor relations and employment matters before state and federal courts and administrative agencies such as the EEOC, NLRB, Missouri Commission of Human Rights, Illinois and Missouri Division of Employment Security, and OFCCP. He has experience handling issues of age, race, and disability discrimination defense; labor arbitration; union contract negotiations; NLRB proceedings, including union representation and unfair labor practice matters; establishment and administration of affirmative action plans; OFCCP audits, compliance reviews and agency proceedings; wage and hour investigations and litigation; wrongful discharge and employment-at-will matters; executive employment arrangements, noncompetition agreements, and ERISA matters.

Mr. Miller has negotiated closing agreements with the sellers' unions, adoption agreements for the purchasers, reviewed labor contracts and grievances. He also has advised clients regarding WARN issues and employment discrimination cases. Before joining the firm, Mr. Miller served as a field attorney and trial specialist for the NLRB, handling unfair labor practice investigations and trials, and federal court injunction hearings. Mr. Miller is listed in Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America, and he has received an AV Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

 


Robert A. Kaiser is a partner with Armstrong Teasdale LLP's Employment & Labor Practice Group. He has served as counsel for both private businesses and public bodies, including manufacturing companies, health care providers, and governmental entities. He has represented clients in numerous arbitration cases, and provides counseling in regard to labor agreements and employment law matters. He has extensive experience in employment litigation of all types, including discrimination and wrongful discharge cases. Mr. Kaiser represents clients before a wide variety of administrative agencies, such as the EEOC, the Missouri Commission on Human Rights, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the NLRB, and the Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division. John A. Vering is Chairman of Armstrong Teasdale's Employment and Labor Practice Group in the Kansas City office. He focuses his practice primarily in the areas of employment and civil litigation, including employment discrimination, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, OSHA, non-compete and trade secret litigation, and employment counseling. Mr. Vering regularly appears before federal and state courts and administrative agencies in Missouri and Kansas and is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Missouri and Kansas and in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Eighth, and Tenth Circuits. He is also a mediator and an arbitrator. Mr. Vering has been recognized in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business as a "leading employment lawyer." Jennifer ArendesJennifer Arendes serves public and private sector employers — including telecommunications, banking, manufacturing, transportation, and insurance companies — in human resources related matters and all aspects of employment litigation at the administrative, state, and federal levels. A significant portion of Ms. Arendes' practice involves counseling clients regarding compliance with the evolving state and federal employment laws and regulations, including ADA and FMLA issues. She guides employers through proper hiring, discipline, leave and discharge practices as well as EEO policies and procedures.
