The NEW Minimum Wage poster is ready to ship!

Minimum Wage Revision:
The District of Columbia Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase to the minimum wage rate. The poster includes a summary of minimum wage rates from 2016 through 2020 including the new minimum wage rate of $12.50 per hour that is going into effect on July 1, 2017. Additional increases will take effect on July 1, 2018 to $13.25 per hour, July 1, 2019 to $14.00 per hour, and July 1, 2020 to $15.00 per hour.
Effective Date: July 1, 2017

Mandatory Federal Poster Update!


The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), aka Minimum Wage, notice has been revised based on upcoming changes to the rules. Among other minor revisions are three major revisions. First, the new notice advises that nursing mothers who are subject to the overtime requirements of the FLSA be provided reasonable break time to express breast milk and a place to do so, other than a bathroom, which is shielded from view and free from intrusion by coworkers or the public. Second, the enforcement provisions have been significantly revised explaining additional penalties for violations of the law. Third, the new notice addresses the misclassification of workers as "independent contractors" when they should be considered employees under the law.

The Employee Polygraph Protection Act (EPPA) notice has also been revised. There is a new QR Code and other cosmetic changes. Despite the lack of significance of these changes, the Department is deeming it a mandatory update.

This is a substantive change and an updated Federal V2.0 poster is required.

Other recent Washington D.C. changes impacting your operations...

Minimum Wage: Beginning on July 1st 2014, the District of Columbia began annual increases to the minimum wage:

  • July 1, 2014 the wage increased to $9.50 per hour, or the Federal minimum wage plus $1.00 whichever is greater 
  • July 1, 2015 the wage increased to $10.50 per hour, or the Federal minimum wage plus $1.00 whichever is greater. EFFECTIVE DATE: July 1, 2015
  • July 1, 2016 the wage increases to $11.50 per hour, or the Federal minimum wage plus $1.00 whichever is greater.

Minimum Wage Future Changes:
Beginning on July 1, 2017 and no later than July 1 of each successive year, the minimum wage shall be increased in proportion to the annual average increase, if any, in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers in the Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States Department of Labor for the previous calendar year. Any increase under shall be adjusted to the nearest multiple of $.05.
Effective Date: July 2, 1017

Accrued Sick and Safe Leave: The District of Columbia Accrued Sick and Safe Leave poster has been updated to reflect an expansion to the definition of employer. The Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act was amended to include a staffing agency as an employer.

Protecting Pregnant Workers: The District of Columbia, Office of Human Rights has released a new poster regarding the Protecting Pregnant Workers Fairness Act of 2014. The law requires employers to provide reasonable workplace accommodations for employees whose ability to perform job duties is limited because of pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, or a related medical condition. The poster is required to be posted in English and Spanish.
Effective Date: 6/5/2015

Fair Employment: The District of Columbia Fair Employment poster has been updated to reflect that a complaint may be filed with the D.C. Office of Human Rights if anyone feels a violation of the Act has occurred.

Wage Theft Prevention: The District of Columbia has released the Wage Theft Prevention poster. The Wage Theft Prevention Act enhances remedies, fines, and administrative penalties when an employer fails to pay earned wages, and includes new anti-retaliation provisions.
Effective Date: 3/20/2015

Family and Medical Leave Act and Parental Leave Act: The District of Columbia Family and Medical Leave Act and Parental Leave Act poster has been updated to reflect additional information regarding who is eligible for leave and when employees can take FMLA or parental leave.
Effective Date: 3/20/2015
